Should you do exercise when mensturating? {Women Stuff}

Ok, I would like to be convinced why we should not exercise if we are menstruating. I did a google search on this topic and I found no particular link saying you should really rest IF you do not suffer from major cramps or heavy bleeding.

Caution: This is only for those who do not have heavy bleeding or suffer badly during those days of the month!! Please do not exercise if you have heavy PMS or mensuration. All you can do is walk in such a case.

So, I do not really suffer from major issues during this time of the month. My blood flow is normal and I generally do not have anything major than leg pains and heavy feeling in the lower part of the body but that settles down if I rest properly.

When I did a google search, all I found was that you can walk, jog, run and even do Yoga during these days except for some of the inverted poses in the Yoga and even swim. Pranayam is specifically recommended for relaxation. Also, one can do Suryanamaskar or stretches or such exercises which do not involves stomach strains or back strain.

But, still, when I went for my Yoga classes (yup, will write about them) today, my acquaintances said I should only rest for the first three days. Now, you would obviously be interested in knowing how I managed an hour of the class.

Honestly, it wasn't too bad. Some of the exercises I totally avoided because it was straining my back but I did do many Suranamaskars and other easy ones which were mostly stretches today. And, afterward, I was feeling pretty good. And, I didn't really push myself more.

My legs weren't heavy anymore. And, this is till now. I would check till tomorrow and let you know if I did really suffer anything major after having a good/bad night sleep :) And, please do convince me if I should really avoid exercising altogether keeping in mind my state of periods.

Any doctor's opinion would be welcome :) And, am I relying on internet more than necessary?

Gynaec consultation before marriage {Bridal Files}

I am reviving the bridal files after a long hiatus. As I have earlier also explained, writing about something which I have never been through does not really come easy to me. Now, how did this come?

One of my colleague is getting married soon and we were just discussing about the various issues involved in a relationship. So, there are a few points I thought would be good if everyone knows about them.

Pre-poning or Post-poning of Periods
Well, having periods around the D-day is most inconvenient, not to mention it is forbidden to sit in pujas at that time! So, always keep a track of your periods during that time.

Also, if they are by any chance falling around the same time, better consult a gyneac on how to postpone or prepone them. I would suggest preponing so that you are over with them when the actual ceremonies start.

How to avoid conception?
Well, this can be done before or after marriage. But, if you are sure you do not want to conceive right away, it is always good to consult a gyneac to know the ways of avoiding the errors. I would suggest the couple to go together!

Medical Test before Marriage
This is something I have discussed long before. Getting a thorough checkup of the reproductive system done beforehand for both bride and groom would avoid a lot of unfortunate events in the later life.

These are a few pointers right now in my mind. Please feel free to add more to them. I know this might sound very obvious or you might die with embarrassment just thinking about the idea of discussing these issues with the prospective groom or bride but it is practical and its always good to be aware.

What do you think? Should one go for such consultations or not?

Do you think you feel more attractive during periods? {Women Stuff}

I know that those few days of the month are really horrible and most of the girls are simply in no mood to take care of themselves. But, yesterday, I came across a different point of view.

My friend said that she had read somewhere that during those days of the month, there is a glow on the face of the girl and she is supposed to be more attractive to the opposite sex.

Apparently, at this time, there is a chemical production which gives a unique scent off the body which is attractive to the male species. Well, I don't know if any of this is exactly true and I have not yet bothered to google about it. If I do find any evidence, I shall let you know!!

Anyways, the above story of not googling is a story of the past. I was curious and in the middle of an extremely boring meeting and on the verge of falling asleep, I decided its a topic worth googling on.

And, guess what, its not the days when you are menstruating but the days when you are ovulating that you have a glow on the face and give off the unique odor and attract the opposite sex. This is in ritual to the mating of the jungle law.

The time when you are ovulating, you are ready for breeding and that is when the mating actually takes place among the animals. And, though humans have evolved, the primal instincts and rules still apply. It means fertility is more attractive to the opposite gender. And, thus, the females are more attractive than usual at least once a month!

So, did you know about this?

Boating, Tummy Bulge and Meals {Health}

Tags : Home >> Health

My colleague always used to complain about chocolate. She used to hate it, not because of diet reasons which she was obviously conscious of!! But, because after eating chocolate, her tummy used to come out.

Have you ever noticed your tummy bulges after having meals or anything in particular? I have never noticed when it precisely happens to me but it does happen. I think it helps to keep track of what we are eating to overcome these issues. What do you say??

Leaving that aside, I wanted to discuss what all could cause bloating in the body!! The reasons can range from in-taking too much of salt causing water retention to irritable bowel syndrome to even hormonal issues!! Though salt is the biggest reason why you can be bloated, there are quite a lot of other reasons too.

Simple Habits which can cause Bloating

Bloating is basically when there is too much air or water in the body! So, if you gulp your food down, talk too much during eating, drink too much water during meals, stressing out too much, eating a lot of carbohydrates, preferring sugar substitutes as opposed to sugar (which specifically have sorbitol), chewing gum, missing meals when your stomach is expecting food, drinking a lot of carbonated drinks and drinking with the straw!!

And, of course, some medicines can cause you to feel acidic or bloated. Similar thing when you are taking too much of stress or smoke heavily or even drink in more moderate amounts! So, all these things make you BLOATED (yes, repeat it in a baritone)!

What Foods are you eating?

Well, beans might be really healthy but they are very gas-sy as well so limit their intake. Spicy or acidic or fried foods also affect your digestive system. In fact, high fibre diets and eating large meals or crash dieting, all cause bloating. Oh yes, how could I forget processed food or high-in-salt foods. Excess dependence on sugar free products also increases bloating because of sorbitol.  When in-taking fiber, make sure you take insoluble fibre as opposed to soluble fibre which gets broken down only in large intestine and produces gas. Check out for more information on soluble and insoluble fibre.

Food Intolerance and Allergies

May be your body does not deal well with lactose or to gluten! In which case, you should avoid dairy products or whole wheat products as well. Some people have intolerance to egg yolks as they are high in sulphur content. So, avoid foods which  create discomfort for you.

Bloating during PMS or Menstural Cycle
Hormonal changes during the onset of menstural cycle or around that time can cause you to bloat.
Regarding menstural cramps: The hormone called prostaglandin. It causes the muscles in your bowels to contract. This is why you can have loose stools, diarrhea, and stomach pain when you get your period. (Source)
Bloating and menstural cramps are different. The fluid retention is due to the higher levels of estrogen.
During the menstrual cycle there is a major fluctuation of hormones, namely estrogen and progesterone, and this causes fluid retention, swelling and the uncomfortable feeling of bloating. Women actually gain pounds of water during this time due to the ability of estrogen to cause fluid to be retained. (Source)

Summary

So, next time you are making a meal for yourself, make sure you include a good amount of protein. And, limit carbohydrates and salt. And, not much of processed food either!! That should take care of all your bloating.

And, when you are pms-ing, make sure you eat healthy and go for regular walks to keep body exercising which will make sure that you do not get a unhealthy bout of bloating.

So, what do you say? Have you ever experience a tummy bulge after a meal or a snack? How do you deal with it? Share what you think in the comments below. And, if you found the post informative, do share it.
